Thanks so much for posting this and the interaction between the Christian and the woman from Phelp’s church.

Phelps and company are actually coming to Boston to picket on December 12 and I’ve been wondering how we should deal with them…the lesson, “Bottom line: love beats hate.” is a good reminder of what our response should be I think.

I have no idea why Mike retransitioned himself, and I’m not even going to presume to guess.

I agree a lot with what you say (although I have a hard time imagining sexism putting a trans woman off transitioning, but that’s more about me than them, so).

This paragraph, especially, is important:

I hope one lesson people would learn from this is that it’s OK to experiment with your gender; that it’s OK to be uncertain about your gender; that being convinced you aren’t gender A, doesn’t inherently mean the only alternative is to become gender B. Because sadly, even within the trans communities, there’s not always a lot of space between.

I’ve been holding off on posting about him because I’ve had other things on my mind, though.

Anyway, yeah, there’s a lot of frustrating dogma in the trans community about who’s trans enough and what you’re supposed to do to prove it.
